Temple of Olympian Zeus

Dedicated to Zeus, this enormous temple (the largest in Greece during the Hellenistic and Roman period) took a good 700 years to be constructed-building began in the 6th century BC, but was not completed until the 2nd century AD.  Also known as Columns of the Olympian Zeus, it is a great starting point for the longest-and arguably most stunning-pedestrian promanade in Europe.   From here, wander along Areopagitou St. up to the Acropolis and its adjacent sites.
