Description

Starting our trip from the Acropolis (Edge of the City) you will admire The Propylaia, The Temple of Athena Victory, the Erechtheion, whose columns are the infamous Caryatids, and of course the Parthenon, the masterpiece of Iktinos, Kallikratis and Phidias, a monument created during the Golden Era of Pericles.

The Acropolis Museum is our next stop. Statues dated back into the Archaic Period, the Caryatids and of course the exhibits from the Parthenon, like the risers (metopes), the friezes, the pediments will impress you.

The Olympion, with the Temple of Zeus, and The Entrance of Adrianosis is the next sight that we will encounter. (10-15 minutes)

Next, The Panathenaic Stadium is the place where we will realise what sport meant for The Greeks.

The Stadium can sit almost 65,000 people, and built in the 4th Century BC, is the stadium where the modern Olympic Games started in 1896.

The trip continues to the Presidential Mansion (10-minute-stop), in Syntagma Square, where the Greek Parliament House and the monument of the Unkown Soldier are located. Here we will watch the changing of Guards, who are called ‘evzones’ and are dressed in traditional uniforms. (10-minute-stop).

You will also see Schliemann’s House (Museum of Coins) and the famous Trilogy with the Library, The University and The Academy (10 – 15-minute-stop).

A wonderful route in the Athenian Riviera, the coastal avenue that connects Athens with Cape Sounio, will give us the chance to admire beautiful beaches, small bays and islands. Cape Sounio is about 70km away from Athens and is located on the southern edge of Attica. The Temple of Poseidon is on the top of the edge of the cape. Built in about 400 BC, it overlooks the water entrance of Saronikos Bay.
